2 1/2 weeks later still NOT getting anywhere…?

Im sure this still sounds like a broken record, but I am at witts end ..I am in Galveston Tx home to the landfall hurricane IKE 18 days ago…
I use to have a job but IKE took that and ran with it along with part of the roof to my house, I have no problem getting a job, and am dilligently looking but no one here is hiring because there is very little left amidst all the destruction….
I applied for FEMA help, they denied me because I have home insurance, which WONT PAY FOR windstorm damages, FEMA referred me to SBA disaster loans and they denied me and referred me back to FEMA, so I feel like I am getting the paper push run around, tried for emergency unemployment, no good there either and trying to get food stamps like everyone says I can get during this hard time is also a big joke….today is the 1st and my mortgage people refuse to give me a deferred payment, even though this is a declared disaster area, I used what small savings I had in hotel bills, gas to run all the faxes around that got denied and now I just dont know where to turn, not looking for handouts, just others who have been thru this and what did you do and where did you turn for assistance?

I’m happy to hear that YOU are okay. Remember that material possessions can be replaced but, your life can not be.
Have you tried contacting The American Red Cross? My father lost everything he owned in a house fire and they were terrific!
He got vouchers for clothes, food, hotels, etc. and they probably know of people to contact regarding employment and your financial situation. It is worth a try at least.
I wish you the best of luck getting back on your feet.

My heart goes out to you…I’m English, so don’t have any of these problems but from what you have put, it seems like you have to struggle so hard just to survive this awful time.
I hope you find a way out of all this x x x

I feel your pain. Getting FEMA assistance is nearly impossible now that other people have abused it. I was denied because I had renter’s insurance, but they reactivated my claim once I had been officially denied by my insurance company. I know that there are places that are hiring that you could maybe just get a temp job to help you out a little. Kroger’s and Randalls would be good places to try.

    Best of luck to you
